What's the best linux distro for a computer without an internet connection?

Q. Considering only this as a criterion, what's the best linux distribution that comes to mind?

A. A distro that comes on a DVD, not a CD (you get more packages that way) and one that has compiled packages, not some thing that you have to build each package from scratch.

Linux Format and Linux Magazine (out of the UK, not the US mag by the same name) both provide DVDs that mean that criteria.

You can get Ubuntu, Mandriva, Suse, and other such distros like that. Just avoid multi-distro DVDs which have smaller, less complete versions since you won't be able to get online to add or upgrade packages.

how do i take screenshots in linux installation?

I've noticed in several blogs that people makes installations to test Linux distributions and they take screenshots throughout the install process, how do they do that?

If you need some specifical information about the Linux installation in which i want to do that, i'm particularly interested doing it on Fedora 8.

A. In Gnome based distributions, Take Screenshot is under Accessories in the main menu. If you also look in keyboard shortcuts (open Control Center) you can make keyboard shortcuts for both entire screen or windows. Once again for Gnome, the command is gnome-screenshot.

Can I run a Linux distribution on any tablets?
Q. Are there any tablets (or netbooks) that can run a Linux distribution from unetbootin? I would get the distribution "unbuntu" or something like that. I would like for it to have USB drives on it and the price tag less than $150.

A. Most tablets don't support booting from USB. The only ones that do are generally x86 tablets, which are always above $200 brand new.

What is the best Linux distribution for a dual boot?

Q. I want to add a Linux distribution as a dual boot. Which Linux is the best?

What Linux Distribution should I put on my other hard drive partion?

Q. I have to hard drive partions, with one partion being Windows XP, and the other getting ready for Linux. I am wondering what Linux distribution I should use. The computer I use is for Home use, like homework, web browsing, ect... Any suggestions?

A. I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 7 Main Edition which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

INSTALL LINUX MINT WITHIN WINDOWS

You keep Windows as it is, mint4win only adds an extra option to boot into Linux Mint. mint4win does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application.

mint4win like Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application.

Boot in to windows insert the LiveCD you have just created and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where mint4win comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Linux Mint (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it.

Once Linux Mint is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Linux Mint

What is a good Linux distribution for a flash drive?

Q. I want a Linux distribution to install to my 8gb flash drive that is light on system resources. (I will be running it on older computers and speed is a must.)

I don't want something like Puppy Linux because you are always running as root and I'm concerned with security. No DSL either. I have had graphics problems with that one on some of my computers.

What is the best linux distribution for multimedia editing?

Q. I'm trying to decide which distribution of linux to install. I want a version with which i can record music, edit pictures, etc... Or am i completely misunderstanding how the linux distributions work? Each one has different programs already installed and do different things... right?

A. yes, each one usually has a different program.

but if you want to do mulimedia is linux i would suggest you to go for ubuntu studio. audio video and graphics. you want it, it got it.

i have tried it and i like it very much, although all i did was test it out. i am not multimedia person. all i do is handle a few digital photographs. i really did not need to use it. i switched to regular ubuntu.

but ubuntu studio is really great and i think you will find everything that you need, in it.

ubuntu studio does not fit in a cd, you will need a dvd and also its installatin unlike other ubuntu's is not graphical. but its is smooth and you is easy to use. but after installation. its very nice.

ubuntu studio does not fit in a cd, you will need a dvd and also its installatin unlike other ubuntu's is not graphical. but its is smooth and you is easy to use. but after installation. its very nice.

What Linux Distribution should I put on my other hard drive partion?

Q. I have to hard drive partions, with one partion being Windows XP, and the other getting ready for Linux. I am wondering what Linux distribution I should use. The computer I use is for Home use, like homework, web browsing, ect... Any suggestions?

I don't want something like Puppy Linux because you are always running as root and I'm concerned with security. No DSL either. I have had graphics problems with that one on some of my computers.

Q. I want to give Linux a try. Which Linux distribution is the easiest to use and most friendly to novice Linux users? I want something that works with minimal setup, for tasks like surfing the web, email, playing and burning CDs, playing DVDs, etc.

What is a good Linux distribution for a flash drive?

Q. I want a Linux distribution to install to my 8gb flash drive that is light on system resources. (I will be running it on older computers and speed is a must.)

I don't want something like Puppy Linux because you are always running as root and I'm concerned with security. No DSL either. I have had graphics problems with that one on some of my computers.

Which Linux distribution is the easiest to use?

Q. I want to give Linux a try. Which Linux distribution is the easiest to use and most friendly to novice Linux users? I want something that works with minimal setup, for tasks like surfing the web, email, playing and burning CDs, playing DVDs, etc.

Which one should I get?

A. I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 6 Main Edition which is Ubuntu based. Its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled.

You would be best off RUNNING IT LIVE so you can get the feel of things.

What is the best linux distribution for multimedia editing?

Q. I'm trying to decide which distribution of linux to install. I want a version with which i can record music, edit pictures, etc... Or am i completely misunderstanding how the linux distributions work? Each one has different programs already installed and do different things... right?

A. yes, each one usually has a different program.

but if you want to do mulimedia is linux i would suggest you to go for ubuntu studio. audio video and graphics. you want it, it got it.

i have tried it and i like it very much, although all i did was test it out. i am not multimedia person. all i do is handle a few digital photographs. i really did not need to use it. i switched to regular ubuntu.

but ubuntu studio is really great and i think you will find everything that you need, in it.

ubuntu studio does not fit in a cd, you will need a dvd and also its installatin unlike other ubuntu's is not graphical. but its is smooth and you is easy to use. but after installation. its very nice.
