Where does uTorrent Server save downloaded files?

Q. I just downloaded a torrent in linux through uTorrent server. How do I access the downloaded file?

A. If you are on Windows, right-click the torrent in uTorrent and select "Open Containing Folder"-this will reveal the content.

You can set the directory for downloads at Options>Preferences>Directories so you know where for the future.

Recommend a Windows BitTorrent client that will auto-start torrents dropped into a certain folder?
Q. I've seen this feature in a few Linux clients... Can anyone recommend a *Windows* based BitTorrent client that will periodically scan a certain folder for new torrent files and start downloading them if they show up?

A. Both Vuze and uTorrent will do that.

Info for Vuze (under "Best Way"):

What are the chances of getting a virus while using utorrent?

Q. I am using a mac book pro with the osx operating system, and i am thinking about using Utorrent to get music, but i don't want to ruin my mac.

A. Reality Check for all computer users;

The moment you choose to download files from the internet period regard less of whether you are using Mac, Linux, Unix, Windows, etc...you are putting your computer at risk.

That said Torrents are very high risk downloads when it pertains to security issues, and must be done using the utmost caution. When ever you download files via torrent you should always scan them. I recommend Norton Antivirus or a free but great alternative AVG. I believe there are versions for Mac.

Just keep in mind a virus, or other related programs can be embedded in any file period. Furthermore, just be cause you use Linux, or Mac as your operating system (I am a Linux user btw.) does not protect you from viruses. However the odds of catching a virus is lower when compared to more popular platforms.

So just to end my explanation; using the internet places your computer at risk, downloading files regardless of where those files come from, places your computer at risk, browsing websites places your computer at risk. Even so I not saying you should be paranoid or anything, but you should not be lowered into a false sense of security either (that's a lot worse than be paranoid).

Have fun with your torrents, and remember to scan your files, especially executables and scripts before using them, and you should be fine. I run Gentoo Linux and I scan all of my downloaded files before use!

Hope this enlightens you!

Are programs like utorrent safe and where do i get them?
Q. I want to download the program utorrent. Is that safe for my computer or could it mess my computer up? Also, is it hard to install or is it simple?

A. uTorrent is safe as far as I know, and you can install if you wish. And torrents are NOT illegal unless of course you are distributing pirated content. A lot of legal files, like Linux distributions are distributed through torrents to reduce server slowdowns and bandwidth problems, like openSuSE or Fedora. You can find many other legitimate, safe torrents as well. To this day I have never found a fake file that may have caused trouble on my computer. Just make sure you are using torrents in the safe place. The clients themselves, like uTorrent, don't cause problems with my system at all. If you want, use trackers that are known to handle only open source or freeware files. If you want to find legal torrents, as in Creative Commans licensed material ment to be free, you can find those at sites, and also public domain torrents, that once used to be commercial, but are now for the public to use at their own will. How can I download stuff using a torrent at university?
Q. Basically I'm studying at university and I would like to download stuff using Vuze and i have a straight ethernet connection to my computer from the wall. University currently blocks anything being downloaded via Vuze and my room mates have similar problems using utorrent and bit torrent is there any way of going about this?

A. Yeah, stick to non P2P downloads. Universities often block that traffic because they can get in trouble because of students downloading copyrighted things.
If the thing you're looking for is not a commercial, copyrighted product that you'd normally buy (i.e. a Linux disto), consider going to the actual website to download it.
If you're trying to download music, movies, software, etc. illegally, consider actually buying the product instead.

Do you know of a good bandwidth limiting software that's easy to use for a little home network?
Q. I have a little home network consisting of like 4 users. One of the users uses utorrent all the time and eats up all the bandwidth. It gets so bad web browsing becomes near impossible to browse the web for any of the other 3 users. I need a program that can allow me (one of the network users) to set a bandwidth limit for this abusive user so we can browse the web normally!!!

A. Other than doing what the original answerer says, you can only control the bandwidth with an external router, that has those features. I use a Linux-based router/firewall that has those capabilities, but it does take some learning to set up such a router - it's not for "common" folk...
If you have the skills, or are capable of learning networking firewalls, here's a link: (all free software)

Check out the list below:
